Event description

A practical introduction to Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) and how it strengthens asset integrity, reduces failures, and optimises inspection planning.

Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) has become a foundational element of modern asset integrity programs across a wide range of industries. RBI 101 provides a clear, practical, and accessible overview of the core concepts behind RBI, showing how organisations can focus on inspection efforts, reduce unplanned failures, improving reliability, and managing resources effectively.

This session will guide participants through the fundamentals of probability of failure (POF) and consequence of failure (COF), common degradation mechanisms, risk ranking, and structured inspection planning. Using API 580 and 581 methodologies, the presentation breaks down complex ideas into practical, actionable steps relevant to engineers, inspectors, and decision-makers alike.

Attendees will gain a working understanding of how RBI supports safer. more reliable operations while reducing unnecessary costs. Real-world examples and industry insights will help both new practitioners and seasoned professionals better understand the value of RBI in today’s asset-intensive operating environments.
