Refurbishment of HV Electrical Machines - Debunked
We all know that some of our new motors and generators seem to develop major problems after only about 5 -10 yrs requiring Major Remedial Repairs and even Winding Replacement.
It seems that market and end user cost pressures have led to significant reductions in machine margins (or no margins at all), adding considerable increases in Mechanical, Electrical and Thermal duties and stresses.
Generational designer change have in turn, led to blind trust in computer design without “Feel and Intuition” so that some Hard Learned Lessons of the Past had been forgotten and Old Problems get reinvented.
What you'll experience first hand
During this site visit, Tony O'Brien and his team from Australian Winders will take us through how failing HV machines' operating life can be extended by replacing and refurbishing equipment also get a better understanding of the various processes and tests involved in the refurbishment process and will include:
- Winding construction from raw material to ‘in the crate’
- Loop winding
- Turn taping
- Shaping
- Consolidation press
- Ground wall insulation application
- OCP and semi grading application
- Final insulation hydraulic hot press
- Final baking
- Different insulation systems
- Roebel half bar construction
- Type testing HV coils, such as :
- Voyage endurance
- Thermal cycling
- Strand testing
- Impulse testing
- Tan Delta
- Partial discharge
- Slot wedge manufacture from raw material up to correct shape grinding
- Other items such as VPI varnishing system, small motor winding
- AC Traction coil manufacturing
Come along to experience a unique opportunity to see and learn more about what electrical machine refurbishment is all about. As a bonus, you’ll enjoy learning and networking alongside a cross-industry mix of other like-minded and experienced professionals.
