Join Beijing-based artist CAO Yu in conversation with curator, collector and cultural advocate Dr Gene Sherman AM, ahead of Just Because: CAO Yu 曹雨 at Artspace.

The conversation explores CAO Yu’s use of performance, photography, video and installation to confront gendered expectations, patriarchal structures, beauty ideals and the human condition.

Drawing on Sherman’s decades of engagement with artists across China and the Chinese diaspora, this conversation considers how the personal, vulnerable and humorous can become powerful tools for resistance.
