'In Conversation' Reporting on the laws of war: a discussion for journalists and media professionals

Australian Red Cross warmly invites you to join The Guardian’s Ben Doherty and Australian Red Cross’ Eve Massingham in conversation reflecting on the rules of war and why journalists and media professionals need to know them - both to help them to report accurately and to protect themselves when reporting from dangerous places.  

Sadly, with over 130 armed conflicts going on around the world, almost all media cycles will contain stories of situations of armed conflict. International humanitarian law (IHL) includes some specific legal rights and obligations relating to journalists, making IHL a valuable tool for them to be aware of when reporting on armed conflicts or deployed to report from areas where conflict is taking place.     

This is an in-person event. Please arrive from 3pm. We will kick off the conversation with Ben and Eve around 3.15pm. An opportunity for questions and then informal discussion will follow.

Australian Red Cross will soon be launching a new leaflet to help journalists and media professionals to better understand IHL. Future events, including online options will follow.
