In Conversation with Chun Yin Rainbow Chan
Description
''A while ago now, I asked my mum to teach me her mother tongue, 圍頭話 Wai Tau Waa / Wei Tou Hua, a disappearing dialect once spoken throughout Hong Kong’s New Territories. Our conversation sparked what has become a lifelong research project into 圍頭 Wai Tau / Wei Tou women’s cultural knowledge.' - Chun Yin Rainbow Chan
To hear more about Chan's 'lifelong research project' which has informed ‘White Jade Orchids 白蘭花,' her current exhibition at Verge, join us for a conversation between Chan and interdisciplinary artist and producer AnSo.
Free food and drinks will be provided. All welcome.

Chun Yin Rainbow Chan
Chun Yin Rainbow Chan (陳雋然) is an interdisciplinary artist, vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist based between Naarm/Melbourne and Gadigal/Sydney. Working fluidly across contemporary visual art, music and live performance, her practice examines cultural representation, (mis)translations, matrilineal inheritance, feminist expression and diasporic identity. Central to her work is the research and reimagining of women’s oral traditions, particularly the bridal laments of Hong Kong’s 圍頭 Waitau/Weitou women, to whom she has deep ancestral ties.
AnSo
AnSo is an interdisciplinary South Korean artist existing and creating on Gadigal Land. As a self-described sculptor of sound, AnSo’s works are ever evolving, like a blob of clay on a throwing wheel, the hands of the sculptor feeling, moulding, collapsing, rising. Their music lies in the experimental electronic realm, building worlds with field recording manipulations and vocal experimentation. AnSo studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is a producer at Phoenix Central Park.
