WHAT THE COURSE COVERS
Standard Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) course teaches people 18 years and over how to offer initial support to adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis is resolved.
Mental health problems covered:
- DepressionÂ
- Anxiety problemsÂ
- PsychosisÂ
- Substance use problems
Mental health crisis covered include:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal Self-InjuryÂ
-Â Panic attacks
-Â Traumatic events
-Â Severe psychotic states
- Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
- Aggressive behaviours
You will learn how and where to get help when a person is developing a mental illness, what help research has shown to be effective and how to provide first aid in crisis situations.
This course will enable you to:
- INTERVENE EARLY
- PROVIDE SKILLS
- RESPOND IN A CRISIS
- REDUCE STIGMA
Complete a self-paced online assessment in order to become accredited
