In Search of Stalin’s Ghost
Event description
Back in the 1960s, Stalin’s body was removed from Lenin’s Mausoleum in Moscow and reburied. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, some said the body should be moved again, back to his native Georgia. But today followers of the occult in Putin’s Russia claim they can communicate with Stalin’s ghost via mediums on the internet.
Professor Sheila Fitzpatrick, leading historian of modern Russia and the Soviet Union, delivers this lecture exploring the intersection of Stalin’s death with the paranormal and what it means for understanding the legacy of Stalin and his rule in Russia and the world.
Professor Fitzpatrick’s most recent book is The Death of Stalin (2025).
