Join Screen Illawarra for a practical, engaging half-day workshop with acclaimed director, writer and screen educator Graham Thorburn, exploring the collaborative process behind developing stories for the screen.

This workshop delves into how stories are shaped collaboratively, and how a group of writers can work together to find the strongest version of a story.

Graham will introduce key screenwriting and story development principles before participants put them into practice through group exercises designed to simulate a professional writers’ room environment.

Expect plenty of discussion, creative problem-solving and the opportunity to see how a story can evolve when different perspectives are brought into the room.

We're incredibly fortunate to have Graham lead this workshop. Graham has had a distinguished career across Australian film and television as a director, writer, producer and educator. He directed more than 70 hours of prime-time television drama, created and directed BEATBOX and produced COUNTDOWN. He was the third President of the Australian Screen Directors Association and spent 11 years at AFTRS as Head of Directing and later Head of Teaching. He has also taught screenwriting, directing and screen acting at UTS and NIDA, and has mentored writers and filmmakers throughout his career.
