Inaugural EME Higher Degree Symposium

Dear 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year students,

Have you ever wondered what a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) is all about? What it would be like to be a HDR student? Or what world-leading research is conducted in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering?

If so, please join us for our combined Inaugural EME Higher Degree Symposium and HDR Pathway Information Session, followed by a Pizza Night!

Event Details:

• Date: Tuesday, 22 July 2025

• Time: Program will be released closer to the date

• Location: Engineering South, S112 Lecture Theatre and FAL Lab

Tentative Program:

• 9:00 am - Kick-off and housekeeping

• 9:05 am - Symposium and HDR Pathway Opening

• 9:10 am - Poster and presentation sessions

• 4:30 pm - Kick-off and housekeeping (afternoon session)

• 4:35 pm - Information about Higher Degree by Research studies:

  • What is a Higher Degree by Research?

  • How do I begin to find a project and a supervisor?

  • What should I look for in making a decision about what and where?

• 4:45 pm - Research leads presentation:

  • 3-minute presentations from 10 research leaders

  • Q&A panel session with current HDR students

• 5:45 pm - Pizza and networking (FlexLab)

• 6:30 pm - End
