Gina Panebianco will be presenting Part of the Art Story 1: Discovering select women artists pre-1900.Women artists have made art across the centuries, but we are often less familiar with their names and their art. Historically, women artists were not given the same opportunities to access training, nor have they been equally represented as their male peers in gallery collections or exhibitions. In some instances, female artists were recognised and successful in their own lifetime but over time their art was attributed to a male artist, or their work placed in storage and forgotten. Today, there are many organisations working to rediscover and correct the record of women artists. In this month’s Art Club, we will focus on both well and less known women artists before 1900, their professional and personal challenges and their legacy.
