    Promoting Mental Health Across the Lifespan in Individuals with Down Syndrome..

    The workshop is an informative workshop by Abby Rowley who is a Clinical Therapist at the Adult Down Syndrome Centre in Illinois.

    This workshop will help parents, carers and supporters to understand some mental health issues across the lifespan of individuals with Down Syndrome.

    Mental health is a critical component of overall wellbeing. In this session, commonly seen mental health concerns at various phases of life will be presented.

    Topics will include life transitions, grief/loss, relationships, and more. families and caregivers will learn practical strategies to help promote mental health throughout the lifespan of individuals with Down syndrome in order to work to prevent more serious mental health / behavioral issues. 


    Abby is a licensed clinical social worker. She received a bachelor’s degree in community health with a concentration in disability studies and a master’s degree of social work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her previous roles include case manager at a residential community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and school social worker, both in the public school system and at a private special education school.
    She provides assessment and treatment as well as patient, family, and community education, including presentations and group facilitation. Abby has an aunt with Down syndrome
