Navigating the School System
This workshop is designed specifically for parents of children with Down syndrome to help them understand and effectively engage with the education system. This interactive workshop will provide essential information on the different schooling options available in NSW.
Parents will learn how to advocate for their child's needs. The workshop will also cover the legal rights of children with disabilities in education and offer practical strategies for building strong partnerships with school staff.
This workshop aims to empower parents with the knowledge and tools needed to ensure their child receives a tailored, inclusive, and supportive education.Â
SPEAKER - Alison Maunder - Education Specialist
Alison Maunder is an educator of over 20 years, specialising in literacy intervention for students with high-support needs. She has worked in a range of diverse learning environments, and since 2019, has developed and initiated a targeted reading program, working specifically with students with Down Syndrome. She is passionate about developing not only literacy skills but also the overall growth and well-being of all students. She strongly advocates for an inclusive educational environment where every child is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.  Â
