* INTRODUCTORY SANSKRIT WITH SANGEET & ARCHANA PANDEY MISHRA - 1pm to 4pm

INDIAN MUSIC WORKSHOP (Bring your instrument and/or your voice and a pen and notebook)!
You will learn
* Basic scales
* Palta (ornamentations)
* Some information about time cycles
* Alap (slow beginning of the raga)
* How to make taans (improvisation)
* Some simple tihai (rhythmic phrase landing back on the first beat).
Your teacher is Sangeet Mishra:
A
n 8th Generation Sarangi player from Mumbai. Being born into a musical lineage, Sangeet has been imbibing and
playing music since a young age, initially learning from his Maternal Grandfather and then from his Father, Pandit
Santosh Mishra. Sangeet travels regularly and shares in both traditional and fusion ensembles, carrying the
strong tradition of this beautiful form of music.
INTRODUCTION TO SANSKRIT
This workshop will include brief knowledge of Sanskrit with learning some morning ritual chants for daily
use. The objective of this course is to give everyone a taste of Sanskrit as a living language by
introducing the basic grammatical structures.
It also seeks to offer an understanding and appreciation of the beauty of the different aspects of this language, from it’s sounds to its rich content, so you feel enthused enough to delve further into it.
Specifically, Vedic chanting offers an introduction to the chanting of Sanskrit Mantras, the proper pronunciation and and understanding of the meaning.
You will learn:
* Sanskrit language structures
* Basic skills of spoken Sanskritam
* Sanskritam chants for everyday use
No prior knowledge of Sanskrit is required for joining this workshop.
Your teacher is Sangeet with Archana Pandey Mishra.
Archana is a celebrated teacher and lecturer, currently enrolled in her PhD. She graduated from Benares Hindu
University with Masters in Sanskrit, including Sanskrit Grammar, Philosophy, and Veda. She can recite and
sing 500 mantras and chants in their proper method, including Shlokas from Shrimad Bhagwat, Bhagavadgita and
Ramayana.
