    Event description

    Everything you need to know to publish your first book as an indie author – and start making money.

    This interactive workshop with practical writing exercises will cover the business of indie publishing, tools of the trade, and making money with books.

     

    Learning outcomes

    • Writers will be empowered with knowledge regarding the options open for publishing their own work in a professional way
    • Writers will have a better understanding of worldwide markets and opportunities for indie publishing
    • Writers will understand the various software applications that will enable them to publish independently in different formats (eBook, paperback, audiobook)
    • Writers will gain confidence in being able to reach their target market of readers through various distributors and retailers
    • Writers will leave the workshop armed with the knowledge they need to launch or improve upon an existing author platform and connect with readers.

       

      Format

      This is an in-person workshop with a focus on audience engagement and industry information; it will be held in-person at State Library of Queensland. This workshop is designed for beginner to intermediate writers of fiction and nonfiction, but is suitable for writers of all levels and backgrounds.

       

      About Rachel

      Before turning to writing, USA Today bestselling crime author Rachel Amphlett played guitar in bands, worked as a TV and film extra, dabbled in radio, and worked in publishing as an editorial assistant.

      She now wields a pen instead of a plectrum and writes crime fiction with over 30 crime novels and short stories featuring spies, detectives, vigilantes, and assassins.

      A keen traveller and accidental private investigator, Rachel has both Australian and British citizenship.
