Event description

Celebrate NAIDOC week and the Gai-mariagal Festival and join Karleen Green to create your own small, coiled basket using lamandra grass. Learn about natural dying techniques that you can try at home. Explore the history of Aboriginal weaving traditions and how baskets, Dilly bags and other woven objects have been used throughout history in Aboriginal culture. 


Tutor: Karleen Green is an Aboriginal woman who is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills in traditional art, weaving and culture. Karleen teaches traditional ochre painting with kids through to traditional basket weaving techniques with natural fibres and plant dyes. Karleen uses natural fibres and paints (ochre) in her classes.
