Indigo Regen Community Forum

Come and join Indigo Regen as we continue to explore ways of addressing the impacts of our changing climate.

Doors open at 2.30, so grab a cuppa and check out the interesting displays set up by local community groups, organisations and businesses, who have an interest in sharing resources around sustainable living and building community resilience.

At 3pm our 3 Guest speakers will present on sustainable living; impacts of climate change on health; and waste management. They will then be joined by Dr Isla Fitridge, Coordinator Environment & Sustainability at Indigo Shire Council for a Q and A panel discussion.

After 5pm, feel free to stay and chat to our stall holders, or come for a walk up to Quercus to see one of our CoolSeat worm farms in action.

You are also welcome to stay for the Indigo Regen inaugural AGM starting at 6pm where you can hear more from our guest presenter, Michael Mobbs. We would love new people to join our committee and bring ideas and energy to our fledgling group.

 Michael Mobbs:

• Practised environmental law for 19 years

• Taught environmental law at University of Technology, Sydney, and at schools, TAFE

• Author, Sustainable House, and Sustainable Food

• Designed policy under which anyone may garden in City of Sydney footpath gardens without Council approval – Footpath Gardening Policy

• Designed coolseats - a unique mix of garden bed, seat, compost, and self-watering

• Designed, fabricated, and with a business and local volunteers, installed unique street furniture to compost food waste, provide seating, and soil.  It is made of galvanised steel and is installed beside the Yarra River and at a business at Fishermans Bend, Melbourne. It is flat-packed, assembled and maintained by the community and has no maintenance costs to Melbourne City Council. The Coolseat bench cost is $3,000, within the Worms at Work Council’s project trial budget.

Dr Wendy Connor:

Biography

Dr Wendy Connor is a retired rural General Practitioner who has lived in Northeast Victoria for almost four decades. She respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the unceded lands where she lives and works.

Wendy has a strong passion for highlighting the connection between climate change and health, emphasising the interdependence of human and planetary wellbeing. Throughout her extensive career as a GP, she has witnessed first-hand the evolving and increasing impacts of climate change on the health of her patients and the broader community.

In addition to her clinical work, Wendy has been active in medical education and public health. She has dedicated herself to raising awareness about the importance of reducing emissions within the health system. Furthermore, she advocates for building resilience in health systems and communities, enabling them to better adapt to the challenges posed by climate change.

Sarah Wallis from Halve Waste:

Sarah has worked on the Halve Waste Education Team for 3 years and is their much valued composting guru. She is a community minded, environmentally conscious advocate her team wish they could replicate many times over. 

Sarah is passionate about sharing knowledge in a relatable way and enthrals young and old alike with her theatrics, singing and a sprinkle of fairy dust. 

Halve Waste implements local solutions to reduce all wastes to landfill by 80%. Their philosophy of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle will be explored in relation to organic waste in Indigo Shire.
