How does this affect you?
The WHS Bill will replace the existing Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA) and imposes a primary duty of care requiring persons conducting a business to reasonably ensure the health and safety of workers. The WHS Bill introduces an increase in penalties and enforceable undertakings
All persons conducting a business and their officers should familiarise themselves with the Act, especially the new industrial manslaughter offence.
The bill introduces a maximum penalty of between five and 20 years imprisonment for individuals, along with fines of up to $10 million for companies.
