Industry Town Hall: Commencement of the new National Security structure – Department of Home Affairs

On Thursday 17 July 2025, Hamish Hansford will commence in the role as Head of National Security leading a new structure within the Department of Home Affairs bringing together the functions of counter terrorism, counter foreign interference, national resilience, protective security for parliamentarians, commonwealth security policy, cyber and technology security, critical infrastructure, transport security, criminal justice and law enforcement.
Hamish will be supported in this role by two Deputy Secretaries leading two groups; Domestic Security & Law Enforcement and Critical Infrastructure & Protective Security.
The department is convening this town hall for industry to discuss the commencement of the new structure that comprises of the Critical Infrastructure Security Centre (formerly called the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre), the Counter-Terrorism Coordination Centre, the Counter Foreign Interference Coordination Centre and the newly re-established Protective Security Coordination Centre.
