INFORM: Art Packaging and Handling
Presented by Guildhouse and Artlab Australia

Tuesday 18 October 2022
10:00am - 12:30pm
Artlab Australia
70 Kintore Avenue, Adelaide 5000

As artists you invest so much in making your work: time, money, blood sweat and tears. The last thing you want is for it to arrive at an exhibition, or its new home, broken.

Learn how to package and handle your work for travel and storage in this practical demonstration presented by Artlab’s Senior Objects Conservator, Justin Gare. You’ll also be given an insight into the innovative techniques used in the preservation of the State’s collections as well as family treasures.

Artlab Australia is a recognised leader in the conservation of cultural collections with a national and international reputation since 1985. Their highly skilled conservators care for cultural heritage, working across five specialised laboratories, undertaking stabilisation, repair and restoration of a huge variety of artefacts. These range from major artworks and ethnographic and historic artefacts, to archival documents and records, large technology items and outdoor monuments.

Participants are invited to bring along a piece of your work (if possible) so Justin can offer tailored advice in how best to package and store it.

Artlab access information:
Turn into Morgan Thomas Lane from Kintore Avenue behind the State Library. Continue to the first courtyard on the left where you will see the Artlab sign on the red brick building. Please enter reception via the courtyard.
