Plastics: recycling and the problem with single-use with Sarah Child
Event description
Plastics: recycling and the problem with single-use
Have you wondered what happens to our recycling, or how far away we are from a true circular economy?
Join Sarah Child for an informative and important conversation about recycling in the Byron Shire and what we can do to reduce plastics.
Learn about the life cycle of our plastic waste – what should go in the yellow bin, what happens after the bin and why we should stop relying on recycling.
Sarah Child is a Resource Recovery Strategy and Engagement Officer at Byron Shire Council. Her experience in education, community development, not-for profit and local government has consolidated her belief that the only way to legitimately reduce waste is to change the system. While, she has spent many hours talking about recycling and plastics, she wants people to understand that more recycling will not necessarily result in less waste. She has continued to implement programs that promote reuse and repair, making inroads to shift from linear to circular models of operation.
