Event description

Prepare for an insightful evening as we explore the recent innovations and future thinking in urban stormwater management! We're excited to invite you to our event, "Innovative Approaches to Urban Stormwater Management: Early Evening Expert Insights and Networking."

Join fellow stormwater practitioners for drinks and canapes at a relaxed early evening event.

Presentation 1: The Pasadena Biodiversity Corridor - Revitalised Reserves by Daylighting Stormwater

Rick Hennig from the City of Mitcham will discuss how Council were able to transform two underutilised reserves into the thriving Pasadena Biodiversity Corridor, benefiting both the local community and wildlife. Learn about the innovative stormwater drain daylighting approach that connects these reserves and supports native vegetation growth, urban cooling, and a vibrant habitat for native animals.

Presentation 2: Smart Stormwater Systems - Harnessing AI for a Cooler, Flood-Resilient Future

A Prof Mark Thyer from the University of Adelaide will showcase their exciting research on smart design and smart control of stormwater systems that leverage machine learning/artificial intelligence to reduce flooding and multiple benefits, such as more water for urban cooling. Find out how this unique system provides an opportunity for local governments and industry to significantly reduce infrastructure costs now and the ability to adapt to future climate change.

Presentation 3: Water Sensitive Urban Design: Pioneering Solutions for Space-Saving Stormwater Management

Dr Michael Di Matteo from KBR will share cutting-edge concepts in water-sensitive urban design, including space-saving stormwater solutions using smart stormwater systems, floating wetlands, and smart surcharging for passive irrigation. Learn how these innovative approaches could help Adelaide achieve multiple benefits in urban spaces, fostering sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with colleagues, learn about the latest innovations, and network with fellow Stormwater SA members. Mark your calendars and join us for an evening of inspiration and conversation on the future of urban stormwater management. We look forward to seeing you there!
