Innovative programs created by international Social Work students
Description
This Student Experience Community of Practice showcases innovative programs designed and delivered by current Social Work students. Be inspired by the power of student ideas!
Kevin Shi is an international student studying Social Work. He created ‘Being a Melburnian’ to bring international students and local Melburnians together through intercultural and intergenerational activities, friendly conversations, and shared community experiences. The program successfully tackles social isolation, cultural adjustment challenges, and creates opportunities for international students to make meaningful local connections.
‘Being a Melburnian’ is delivered in partnership with the University of Melbourne and the North and West Melbourne Neighbourhood Centre.
Lisa Wright is the Student Wellbeing Manager at Scape. She believes Social Work students can do anything! She has seven social work students on placement, six are international. Together they design programs to create a warm home-like environment that supports international student confidence and wellbeing.
This presentation will include a student panel and highlight a range of creative peer support programs, including social events and wellbeing initiatives that respond to resident needs and feedback.
