These awards recognise service to the community across all sectors. Directed at the non-Rotary community, it is about commitment, dedication, perseverance and proactivity in improving the lives of others across NSW.

* Your ticket purchase and proceeds from this event will support an Australian Rotary Health Scholarship for a young female GP by assisting with expenses during her 12 month placement in a Rural GP practice. Rotary does not retain monies for administration costs.

2017 Inspirational Women Winners

Solange Cunin - 2017 Young Inspirational Woman

Solange Cunin, 2017 Young Inspirational Woman, was awarded for her commitment to Australia's revival of its commitment to space. A NSW University graduate in Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics, with her continuing interest in space in 2015 she founded Cuberider, to encourage high school students to share her passion. Through Cuberider, students launch their own experiments to the International Space Station. Solange’s goal was to promote interest among students in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). She has organised Australia’s first mission to the International Space Station, influencing new space policies to do so. Outside of Cuberider, she has established the ANU’s outreach program at Siding Springs Observatory, sat on the board of directors for NFP Halogen, and mentors gifted regional high school students.

Emelda Davis, 2017 Inspirational Woman

Emelda Davis, 2017 Inspirational Woman, was awarded for her work as a second-generation descendant of Australia's Indentured Labour trade working tirelessly for Indigenous and Australian South Sea Islander (ASSI) communities. She has presided over ASSI (Port Jackson), founded in 2009, which has had notable achievements, including a formal motion passed in the NSW Parliament in 2013 recognising ASSIs for their contribution to the state. Emelda has worked towards the establishment of the National Australian South Sea Islander Association. A recipient of the 2015 NSW Council for Pacific Communities Award, received the 2016 Sydney Local NSW Women of the Year Award, she has worked on the TLC foundation to assist indigenous and broader communities facing hardship. Emelda has helped ASSI descendants trace their relatives and has coordinated relief efforts to assist after cyclone disasters in Vanuatu and Fiji.
