Description

Please join us to celebrate a collection of Jewellery and Metalwork inspired by Physics

On Wednesday 15 April commencing at 6pm with refreshments

UQ Physics Museum Parnell Building (7)

The University of Queensland, St Lucia

Each piece starts with a spark:

  • A relic of an experiment

  • The appeal of a research image

  • The elegance of a theoretical idea

  • The story of a scientist …

These pieces are made by Margaret Wegener (Senior Lecturer in UQ Physics) combining scientific experimentation, analysis and problem-solving with techniques of traditional metalsmithing and fine jewellery-making. These objects aim to build connection with physics in new ways.

Please RSVP by Tuesday 7th April

You can also view the display over the coming months, in the UQ Physics Museum and foyer of the Parnell Building.

Dr Margaret Wegener is a Teaching-Focused Senior Lecturer in Physics at The University of Queensland. She has a particular research interest in developing innovative and effective ways to learn physics. She has also been a maker in metal for more than two decades, and exhibits regularly with the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Queensland.

These artworks are personal creations by Margaret Wegener and are displayed as part of UQ’s outreach and educational activities. No artworks are available for sale during this display.
