Inspiring Women of Moyne 2025

On February 28th, Moyne Shire Council will celebrate International Women’s Day with a special evening event at Charlie’s on East, Port Fairy. This event is an opportunity to create a more inclusive environment for women in our region and highlight the valuable contributions women make to our local community.

The event will be hosted by Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Karen Foster, with a special guest speaker Sherry Johnstone. Sherry Johnstone is a proud Keerray Woorroong (Gunditjmara) / Yorta Yorta woman, contemporary Aboriginal artist, and founder of Spirit and Soul Creations. Based in Warrnambool, she blends traditional knowledge with contemporary art to share cultural stories, foster awareness, and build respectful relationships.

As part of the evening, we will also hold a Q&A panel discussion featuring Mayor Cr Karen Foster, Moyne Shire’s 2025 Citizen of the Year, Margaret Whitehead, Guest Speaker, Sherry Johnstone & State Member for Western Victoria, Jacinta Ermacora. Together, they will share their inspiring experiences and insights.

To mark this important day, Council will once again honour women in the community through our annual ‘Inspiring Women of Moyne’ awards. These awards, nominated by community members, aim to recognise and celebrate women from all walks of life who make meaningful contributions to our community – whether through their work, studies, families, relationships, or community involvement.

This is a free community event, hosted by Moyne Shire Council, with canapés and champagne served from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM upon arrival.
