Open Insurance is a subset of Open Finance that empowers customers to own and share their insurance data securely. It builds on existing Open Banking frameworks, enabling customers to authorise insurers to share data with accredited third-party providers, fostering transparency, innovation, and competition. New Zealand’s Consumer Data Right (CDR) formalises this framework, with an initial focus on banking and potential expansion to insurance.
