Event description

Spend time in a small group with award winning Wildlife and Conservation Photojournalist Doug Gimesy.

This class offers an opportunity for photographers from novice to advanced to learn from Doug Gimesy in this Wildlife in Focus Masterclass.

In the first part of this Masterclass we will examine why images are so powerful and key things to consider when taking a photograph, including some of the basics.

Doug will then guide the group to look at features and characteristics beyond a mastery of the technical basics that can give wildlife and nature images real impact.

In the second part, Doug and the group will review at least one image provided by each participant that have been submitted before the Masterclass.

The group will examine these to understand what worked well, and what could be done differently next time without identifying the photographer.

At the end of this interactive Masterclass, photographers will have developed a better understanding of what to consider when trying to capture memorable wildlife/nature photographs.

About Doug

Doug Gimesy is a professional conservation and wildlife photojournalist who focuses on Australian issues. A four-time finalist in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the year and the inaugural winner of the WildScreen Panda Photo Story Awards, he also recently won the Big Picture Natural World Photography Competition’s Human/Nature category, and one of his platypus images now appears on the current $1.20 stamp.

A Senior Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP), his clients include National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, The Smithsonian, Australian Geographic, as well various mastheads like The Guardian.

Believing people should focus on the issues they care about and those that are close to home, his recent work has focused on the conservation and animal welfare issues facing the platypus and the grey-headed flying fox.

His hope is that the images and information he shares, will inspire people to stop, think, and treat the world more kindly.
