In partnership with the Honpa Hongwanji Hawai’i Betsuin, the ACLU of Hawai’i invites you to the “Interfaith Community Town Hall & Iftar Dinner" on Tuesday, April 2 from 5:30pm-8:00pm HST at the Hawai'i Betsuin (enter from Lusitana Street, not Pali Highway). The Iftar meal marks the end of a day of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, observed by our Muslim ohana.

The Town Hall forum will begin with interfaith leaders discussing the spiritual significance of fasting and explaining how people of faith are called to civically engage and to provide support for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Experts from the ACLU of Hawai'i will then share insight on the work we do to protect civil liberties and religious freedoms, and answer any questions from community members. This Town Hall forum is intended to create bonds of solidarity and to cultivate the community's input towards building lasting peace.

Doors open at 5:15pm. The Town Hall program will take place in the Main Temple at 5:30pm, followed by Maghrib (evening prayer for those who choose to pray) in the Annex Temple at 6:45pm, and conclude with the Iftar Dinner & Q&A in the Social Hall at 7:00pm. Vegan options are available, and all meat options are halal-certified.

All community members, including partners, families, children, elderly, etc. are welcome to join, but RSVP is required. The event will be limited to 200 guests. Please RSVP by Thursday, March 28. We hope to see you there, inshAllah.
