Intermediate - Some encaustic experience required

Course Description:

This class will give students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of encaustic painting. We will work with collages, accretions and painting, so come prepared with items that you might want to include/imbed in your work. They can range from photographs to plant matter, fabrics, laces, yarns, etc. Since this is a wax based media, anything that wax can adhere to can be used. All supplies are included in the class. Previous experience with encaustics would be helpful but is not necessary to produce a finished work.

About the Artist: Mary Lamb

I've been involved in art and design for about 35 years, both in teaching and professional practice but began using encaustics about 10 years ago. My encaustics involve the use of a tinted hot wax medium applied to a solid surface or archival paper with a variety of tools and brushes. My work has focused mainly on accretions or the building up or layering of wax but I've also done collages and paintings. The medium allows ample room for creativity to grow and blossom.
