Intermediate Spinning Techniques
Description
Beginning spinners strive to make fine and consistent singles. Diameter control is an important piece of this puzzle, and in this class, Sylvia will teach a couple of ways to achieve this in both worsted and woolen spinning techniques. Plying is a key step in making strong and beautiful handspun yarn and Sylvia will remove the frustration and guesswork while discussing and practicing techniques to create consistent 2- and 3-ply yarns. A handout with tips, terminology and resources will be provided. Sylvia has 2 wheels available for use at $10 each. Please contact her directly at spinnersthreads@gmail.com to arrange this. Otherwise, students need to provide a
sound wheel, orifice hook, 2-3 empty bobbins and a lazy kate (can be made with knitting
needles run through a shoebox).
Please let us know if you have any special needs we should be aware of for you to attend this event.
