International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) is an internationally recognised event, celebrated on 13 of June each year. IAAD aims to create and raise albinism awareness and celebrate the lives of people with albinism. Albinism is a rare, recessive genetic condition, which effects approximately one in every 17,000-20,000 people. There are only approximately 1300 people in Australia with albinism!

There are many different types of albinism and people with albinism either have a loss of pigment in just the eyes or the skin, hair and eyes. People with albinism usually share many unique features including, very fair and pale skin meaning they need to be careful in the sun and wear a hat , sunscreen and sunglasses, white or blonde hair, and people with albinism have a vision impairment which can range from mild to more severe.

All people with albinism live successful and productive lives and have many unique experiences and qualities they can share.

This event aims to connect families of people with albinism and is a great opportunity for socialising, sharing experiences and asking questions.

Tickets are free, but registration is essential.
