It's very short notice but it's an opportunity no screen composer should miss.

SMSG presents an extremely special guest; the acclaimed composer of the massively anticipated 'Avatar: The Way of Water' - Simon Franglen

This is a truly unique opportunity to hear from the composer behind the most anticipated film release of the year.

Simon's had an incredible career working on blockbusters such as 'Titanic', 'Seven', 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Magnificent Seven''. He's collaborated with Hollywood royalty such as James Horner, Thomas Newman and Alan Silvestri.

Just a couple of weeks before the film hits the cinemas and Simon is whisked away to the red carpet, he has agreed to talk about his career journey and how he ended up writing the music for 'Avatar: The Way of Water'.  He'll also discuss his journey of coming to Aotearoa to work on Avatar, and how that has impacted on his music.

Simon will be interviewed by Ewan Clark, SMSG member and an award-winning film composer and orchestrator. He is also a scholar and educator in film music studies, having written a PhD dissertation on the film scores of Frenchman Alexandre Desplat.  As a composer, Ewan has scored the feature length docudrama 'Doubt: The Scott Watson Case' (TVNZ1), the feature film 'Hotspot: Log in At Own Risk', and numerous short films and documentaries that have screened at film festivals around the globe. A highlight was collaborating with composer Rhian Sheehan to co-compose the score for Zoe McIntosh's short 'The World In Your Window'. This film won various awards, including best fiction short at the 2017 Melbourne International Film Festival.

Come prepared with questions for Simon.
