Event description

Join us for a special film night to celebrate International Women's Day. Featuring the award winning movie Hidden Figures, the untold story of three visionary African-American women who overcame incredible odds to carve out careers in the male-dominated world of 1960s Nasa and play a key role in the Space Race.

At the time, getting to work at Nasa was a near-impossible achievement for African-Americans – let alone female ones. Yet through their determination, tenacity and undeniable talent these pioneering mathematicians quickly made an indelible mark, with huge contributions that thrust the space program forward, changed the course of history and made an undeniable case for equal rights.

All proceeds from this event will go towards A Glassy Day's Surf to Smile Project, with a special viewing of the Surf to Smile Story on the night.

Surf to Smile is a incredible local project run by A Glassy Day Surf Coaching that seeks sponsorship to run Surf to Smile surfing lessons for those in our community who are dealing with trauma or mental illness and do not have the financial means for self-help services.

Surf to Smile is as simple as that. During depression, trauma or grief the hardest thing to do genuinely, is smile. When learning to surf, it is almost impossible not to smile. The program promotes positive mental health, healthy self-esteem and wellbeing through the inclusive surfing lessons.

A Glassy Day Surf Coaching is working with Desert Blue Connect to be able to provide the Surf to Smile lessons to some of our clients, particularly those who are impacted by family and domestic violence issues, trauma and mental illness. All money raised will go to this cause.
