Event description

To celebrate IWD at Fishburners this year, Fishburners are hosting a fireside chat with the incredible Camilla Schippa. Join us on your lunch break for an inspiring discussion, networking and light refreshments.

Camilla Schippa is the CEO of The Social Outfit, a fashion label dedicated to employing & training refugees & new migrants. The Social Outfit is one of Australia’s most creative and celebrated social enterprises, a fashion label with a difference! Camilla's mission is to provide employment and training to people from refugee and new migrant communities.

She is passionate about social enterprise and the power of public-private partnerships to address complex social challenges. She believes in economic self-empowerment and social inclusivity. In 2019, Camilla decided to leave her career in international development and peace to take the helm of The Social Outfit, a social enterprise dedicated to providing refugees with their first Australian jobs in a supportive and caring environment.

At The Social Outfit, retail and manufacturing accounts for 70% of activities, with free training programs accounting for the remaining 30%. Partnerships play a key role in helping The Social Outfit foster social cohesion and inclusion. Carla Zampatti, Romance Was Born, Bianca Spender, Ken Done and Linda Jackson are just a handful of the Australian fashion icons who have collaborated with them over the last five years. They also work with refugee settlement agencies such as SSI, The Asylum Seekers Centre and MRC, as well as with some of the most forward-thinking foundations and business leaders.

90% of those The Social Outfit has employed to date, have been successfully transitioned to other paid employment proving that their model really works. The Social Outfit have also provided free training and education programs to over 400 refugees and new migrants in Sydney.
