International Women's Day with WHISE and Kara

This International Women’s Day, Kara Family Violence Service (Kara) and Women’s Health in the South East (WHISE) are joining forces to explore the power of collaboration across the prevention–response continuum of violence against women.

Guided by the UN Women theme Rights. Action. Justice. For all Women and Girls and the Australian theme Balance the Scales, this event will examine how prevention and frontline response can work together to create safer, fairer and more just systems for women and girls. Together, we will reflect on progress, acknowledge the barriers that remain, and consider what meaningful action looks like when lived experience is at the centre.

This gathering will showcase collective capability, strengthen relationships across sectors, and reaffirm our shared commitment to responding to harm today while working to prevent it tomorrow.

Kit and Geraldine will discuss what becomes possible when prevention and response intentionally come together — deepened collaboration, strengthened systems, and change driven by lived experience.

Keynote address by Jane Gilmore, Author

Jane, well known for her Fixed It campaign, will explore the 2026 IWD themes through a prevention‑and‑response lens, inviting us to reflect on rights, justice and action, and challenging us to rethink the norms and systems shaping women’s lives.

Connection and reflection over nibbles

An opportunity to connect with colleagues across sectors, reflect on shared purpose, and consider how each of us can contribute to balancing the scales for women and girls.
