Event description

Are you looking to enhance your story-sharing skills and visitor engagement?

This workshop is a foundational step towards mastering interpretation and transforming visits into unforgettable experiences. Perfect for those working in museums, galleries, parks, zoos, heritage sites and tourist attractions.

Designed and presented by Lynda Burns this workshop offers a full day of immersive learning. With decades of experience as a practitioner, trainer, and mentor across Aotearoa and abroad, Lynda brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise and is a leader in the field of interpretation.

Throughout the day, you will:

  • Experiment with new ideas and skills.

  • Share your existing knowledge with like-minded professionals.

  • Explore the role of place interpretation in visitor experience.

  • Learn how to reach the hearts and minds of visitors through meaningful story-sharing.

  • Take a closer look at visitor demographics and behaviours.

  • Discover the steps to start your interpretation projects, including research, goal setting, media choices, budgeting, and collection analysis.

  • Gain basic project management tips to get things done efficiently.

  • Explore how to work alongside iwi, stakeholders and managers.

Please bring actual project ideas or content research to trial what you have learned throughout the day. This hands-on approach ensures that you get to test your new skills and leave with actionable insights.

"Lynda recently facilitated a workshop on guiding for our team at Cornwall Park. Her amazing, tailored response to our programme has vastly improved the visitor experience and how we interpret this place. Our guides love the new skills they have learnt and are enjoying updating the entire programme of park-led walks.”
