Event description

This presentation will explore the intersections between family law and migration law, with a focus on parenting matters. The presentation will highlight challenges and common misconceptions, topics will include the “best interests of the child” principle, the legal definition of “child,” the status of children born in Australia, and legal considerations for migrating to, remaining in, or relocating from Australia with a child.

The session is facilitated by solicitors from Women’s Legal Service Queensland’s Temporary Visa Program. As of 1 July, this program has transitioned from a pilot to a fully funded service, WLSQ now provides migration, family law, and domestic violence legal assistance to women on temporary visas who are experiencing violence.
