Join our esteemed panel of experts, researchers and lived experience intersex advocates in a safe space to learn more about the Intersex community and reflect on how you can be a more effective ally!

To recognise Intersex Awareness Day (26 Oct) & Intersex Day of Solidarity (8 Nov) this year, the University of Queensland and Brisbane City Council have collaborated to bring together an opportunity for you to be curious, learn, and connect around how we can work together to advance our allyship for Intersex communities.

This one-hour panel will include a 45minute panel and a Q&A portion for 15minutes. Our speakers:

Stephanie Saal (she/her) - Stephanie Saal is a prominent intersex advocate and leader working at both state and national levels to protect the human rights, autonomy, and dignity of intersex Australians. Drawing on her lived experience as an intersex woman who underwent non-consensual medical intervention at birth, Stephanie utilizes her story to educate communities, organisations, universities and business, as well as drive policy change. She serves as a Director of InterAction for Health and Human Rights and sits on the Queensland LGBTIQ+ Government Roundtable. Through these roles, Stephanie actively works to advance landmark legislative reforms to end invasive, deferrable surgeries and unconsented medical interventions on intersex infants and children.
Jason Cullen (they/them): As an intersex human, Jason gravitated towards philosophy and literature in search of the tools to make sense of their experiences. By the time they completed a PhD in philosophy in 2014, they were working in the library at the University of Queensland, where they eventually found themselves working in accessibility and assistive technology. This role has brought Jason’s philosophical interests in metaphysics, phenomenology, and the history of science into contact with advocacy and education where disability and LGBTQIA+ issues intersect.
Kylie Bond: Details to come!
