A Tongan-born, Melbourne-raised singer-songwriter and guitarist, Joel's performances exude energy and passion, reflecting his status as a true world citizen. Having spent 14 years living in the vibrant northern port city of Hamburg, Germany, Joel has played over 800 concerts in 25 countries across 4 continents, cementing his position as a beloved fixture on the European club and festival circuit.

Whether performing solo, as part of the Havea Brothers duo with his brother Dave, or with his German-based band (Joel Havea Trio), he's graced diverse venues ranging from intimate lounges and charming cafes to grand European castles and renowned live clubs. He's even taken his talents to luxury cruise ships sailing the Mediterranean, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, and showcased his artistry on some of Europe's most prestigious festival stages, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg.

With an impressive discography of three albums and three EPs, all self-produced and released under his own label, Tastic Records, Joel's latest record "Ki ‘a Lavaka," released in April 2020, pays homage to the vibrant culture of his Tongan homeland.

Joel's recent years have been a whirlwind of exciting opportunities, from showcasing at Folk Alliance International to participating in the Outlaw Ocean Music Project with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Ian Urbina. He also made waves on the global music scene with the prestigious Global Music Match program, co-presented by Sounds Australia. Furthermore, Joel performed twice for week-long stints at the Australian Pavilion during the World Expo in Dubai, leaving a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.

Having recently returned to Australia, Joel is currently immersed in crafting his highly anticipated new solo album, set to be released in the second half of 2023.
