Into the Deep: science today, for our oceans tomorrow
Event description
Into the Deep: science today, for our oceans tomorrow is an after-hours event hosted by the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) and SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium during National Science Week.
Set inside one of Sydney’s most iconic ocean spaces, this immersive experience invites students, educators, researchers, families, and emerging scientists to explore the cutting edge of marine conservation and research—through hands-on exhibits, one-on-one conversations with marine experts, and real-world career insights from some of Australia’s leading institutions.
Across the aquarium, guests will move at their own pace through a series of interactive stations—each led by professionals working in marine science, ocean technology, conservation, education, media, and more. From underwater photography and aquarium husbandry to data science and policy, this night is designed to reveal the full spectrum of ocean-connected careers.
The journey ends in a “Next Steps” hub, where guests can connect with representatives from top universities, training providers, and research organisations to discover how to turn their curiosity into a career.
Whether you're just getting started or looking to take the next leap, Into the Deep will not only spark your interest in marine science—it will help you map your path forward.
