Intro to Biochar
Event description
It is time for us to make Biochar at Kapiti Marae Mara Kai! We use biochar because it is GREAT for the sustainability and productivity of our garden soils. It increases fertility by providing habitat for soil microorganisms, storing and releasing soil moisture and increasing the nutrient holding capacity of the soil ecosystem.
We use woody materials that can be hard to compost, tree prunings etc to make charcoal that captures carbon and sequesters it into our soil. This is a great way to 'close the loop' and join the natural cycles of our land.
Come along to our "charburn" on Sunday, ask all your questions, find out how you can make your own at home, observe the process and learn the key skills and tricks.
Check out our new compost bins and green house development at the same time.
We will boil the billy about 1030 feel free to bring your favourite cup, a teabag and some bikkies if you like ;).
Informal gathering, come and go as you please stay as long as you like. We'll finish about 11am.
John and John.
