Introduction into Blacksmithing — 8th & 9th July 2023
Learn the fundamentals of blacksmithing with Pete Mattila.
Informed by discussions on design, technique and practical procedures, you will work through a series of projects. You will also learn about forges, how to navigate an anvil and all the wonderful tools that fit into the blacksmith’s repertoire.
This is an essential class to undertake before moving on to other workshops such as Intro II: Contemporary blacksmithing, toolmaking, basic knife-making, and other specialised design-build courses.
This blacksmithing course takes place at the picturesque waterfront slip yards of Battery Point in Hobart, Tasmania.
Each class allows only four students per session. This ensures quality in teaching and safe working practice.
The course will be held in the front shed at Mattila Studio over the weekend of 8th & 9th July 2023, from 9 am to 5 pm each day.
Responsibility to teach and share with others in my community and abroad is a part of my arts and trade practice. This fits in with the ethos of self-empowerment through skills. Mattila Studio is a safe space where creativity thrives and ideas are realized.
