Description

This training is designed to provide participants with basic knowledge, skills and tools needed to effectively respond to individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral distress.  Participants will learn about best practices in de-escalation framework including strategies to maintain safety, reduce tension and promote positive outcomes during challenging situations.  This training will look at how staff interactions, communication styles and responses can influence an individual’s ability to self-regulate or recover from a challenging situation.

Learning Objectives:

·  Identify common signs of emotional or behavioral distress and describe factors that may contribute to an individual’s difficulty with self-regulation.

·  Apply effective de-escalation strategies, communication techniques, and safety practices to respond appropriately during challenging interactions.

·  Demonstrate an understanding of how staff behaviors, responses, and communication styles can influence outcomes and support individuals in regaining regulation and moving toward positive resolution.
