About the facilitator:

Mary Barron’s studio practice has included sewing, basketry and papermaking, but in recent years bobbin lace making has become her passion. The new Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast (HOTA) recently commissioned Mary to create a large-scale lace work for their opening exhibition, Solid Gold. Mary’s large scale works have been exhibited widely in Australia and overseas, and are featured in several national & international lace magazines. Her solo exhibition, Lace, shown at Gympie and Logan Art Galleries in 2020, consisted of large scaleworks made using thread created from recycled plastic packaging. Logan City Council has selected Mary to create a permanent public art installation in the heart of Beenleigh. Mary has been teaching craft based workshops for years, partnering with local councils and organisations such as the Queensland Spinners, Weavers & Fibre Artists to bring lace-making to the wider community.
