Intro to Nature Photography
Event description
Join other nature-loving photographers for an overview of types of nature photography and how to get started with your smartphone or DSLR camera! Emphasis will be on how naturalist skills will help you get better photos and inspire others to get involved with community conservation.
This small group workshop will orient participants to a number of nature photography genres using naturalist skills. Referencing nature’s cycles, ecosystems and biodiversity, we’ll cover various types of nature photography techniques and opportunities in San Diego County, including:
- Landscapes: some of San Diego’s most dramatic
- Wildlife: habitats and behavior
- Native plants and wildflowers: ID and timing
- The water cycle: from flowing water to dramatic clouds
- Astrophotography: the beauty of starry night skies
This workshop will have both lecture and field time at Wild Willow Farm to put some of our new knowledge into use. Instructor Colin H. Richard’s portfolio from San Diego and beyond will share examples of how both DSLR cameras and smartphones can capture inspiring images from the natural world, and contribute to biodiversity research and conservation using iNaturalist.
