Event description

Intro to Recording and Music Production is a hands-on series of 4 evening workshops covering the fundamentals of modern music production — from gear and recording to mixing and mindset. This course is perfect for beginners or for intermediate musicians looking to up their game. We will work in a logical progression, with engaging lectures followed by fun practical lab work to consolidate what we have learned. Each workshop is spread two weeks apart to allow students time to explore and experiment with the material in their own time.

Course Content
Week 1 (3 sep): gear – microphones, interfaces, speakers, connections and gain staging
Week 2 (17 sep): recording – tracking, comping, organisation, collaboration and mindset
Week 3 (1 oct): mixing – volume, panning, EQ, compression and automation
Week 4 (15 oct): effects – saturation, limiting, gating, reverb, delay and creative effects

You can book in for the whole workshop series or come to one or more as you please.

All students will receive a resource pack for each session including useful tips, info on free music software, workshop notes, and creative assignments.

This course is designed so that anyone who is interested can join Christopher’s next workshop series in summer, “Introduction to Electronic Music Production”, which will focus more on the creative process of creating electronic music using a digital audio workstation such as Ableton or Logic.
