Event description

This introductory welding course is designed for beginners who want to develop fundamental welding skills in a safe and structured environment. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided practice, participants will learn the essential techniques of MIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). By the end of the course, students will have the confidence to operate welding equipment safely, troubleshoot common issues, and apply their skills to practical projects.

Course Outline

Module 1: Introduction to Welding
• Overview of Welding
o Definition and purpose of welding.
o Introduction to welding processes:
 MIG (Metal Inert Gas)
 Stick Welding
 Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
• Applications of Welding
o Discuss various industries (automotive, construction, manufacturing).
o Show examples of welded products (frameworks, repair work).

Module 2: Safety Practices

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
o Demonstration: Show correct PPE (helmet, gloves, boots, jacket).
• Welding Safety Guidelines
o Fire safety measures.
o Ventilation importance.
o Practical Exercise: Identifying safety hazards in a simulated workspace environment.

Module 3: Welding Equipment and Materials

• Essential Welding Tools
o Hands-On Demonstration: Show the setup of a MIG welding machine, including gas connections and settings.
o Overview of basic tools (chipping hammer, wire brush, welding clamps).
• Understanding Welding Materials
o Discuss types of metals commonly used (steel, aluminium) and their properties.
o Hands-On Exercise: Participants identify materials suitable for welding.

Module 4: Basic Welding Techniques

• Hands-On Demonstration
o MIG Welding Technique: Show welding bead creation, speed, and angle.

• Group Activity: Participants can create a simple project plan such as a small frame or joint.

Module 5: Troubleshooting and Best Practices
• Common Welding Issues

o Discuss defects (porosity, undercut, excessive spatter) and their causes.
• Best Practices for Successful Welding
o Tips on maintaining equipment and improving weld quality.
o Practical Discussion: Encourage participants to share personal experiences or challenges.

All materials & PPE will be provided.
