Times are changing and together we need to work on new ways of thinking!

The Melbourne Doughnut Economy model was launched in April 2021 after an extensive community collaboration process. Now it’s our turn to explore what it could mean for the Mornington Peninsula.

As part of the IMAGINE Peninsula 2040 process, we’re excited to welcome you to an intergenerational discussion where we’ll look into the future through the lens of the Doughnut. That means thinking about how we balance ‘social foundations’ like water, food and education with ‘ecological ceiling’ themes like climate change, biodiversity loss and chemical pollution. Just think Yin and Yang!

Calling local First Nations people, students and educators, volunteers and social entrepreneurs, policy-makers and change-makers, economists and naturalists, artists and musicians, academics and trades people, business owners and activists to consider:

The collective wisdom and knowledge will be gathered and shared with the Council as a way of laying the foundations for how the Doughnut can inform our region’s pathway to the future.

Who’s hosting the event?

A local intergenerational partnership between David L Wright from Waves of Wellbeings and Matt Sykes from Regeneration Projects, plus Nathan Wainwright and local musicians Carissa Nyalu and Marty Williams.

Background

Originally created by a super smart lady from Europe called Kate Raworth, the concept has been brought to Australia through the Regen Melbourne network. Essentially, it’s a group of 40+ organisations and 600+ individuals from the Melbourne metropolitan region who are working towards a regenerative future. Acknowledging Country

We acknowledge lands and waterways that are the backbone of the Mornington Peninsula community. We acknowledge the Boonwurrung and Bunurong as the First Nations Peoples of this place, as well as their living connections to Country through Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the footsteps of all paths of migration that now make up our diverse region.
