An Introduction to Australia's Remarkable Plants
Description
Led by botanist Dr Ryan O’Donnell, this walk in our Queer Trails and Tales program will introduce participants to the remarkable diversity of Australia’s native plants. Shaped by long periods of geographic isolation, nutrient-poor soils and frequent fire, Australian flora is truly unique in the world.
Against the beautiful backdrop of the Australian National Botanic Gardens, we’ll explore some of Australia’s major plant groups and discover the adaptations that allow them to thrive in our distinctive landscapes. Along the way, Ryan will give participants a crash course in botanical identification and share some of the fascinating ecology and evolution behind the plants around us.
Canberra Environment Centre's Queer Trails and Tales is a series of six guided nature walks celebrating Canberra’s landscapes, wildlife and biodiversity through a queer lens. Led by local experts, each walk brings together science, storytelling and community to explore the fascinating diversity of the natural world.
Numbers are capped at 15 people, so be sure to book before it's too late!
Queer Trails and Tales is proudly supported by the ACT Government’s Capital of Equality Grants Program.
