Join me for a warm, low-pressure afternoon exploring the beautiful, meditative art of brush calligraphy. If you have ever wanted to create those gorgeous, sweeping letters but didn't know where to start, this is the perfect place for you.
And here's the best secret about brush calligraphy. You do not need good handwriting to be good at it! Brush calligraphy is just a series of simple, repetitive shapes. We leave perfection at the door here 🙂↕️ wobbly lines are just part of the learning journey, and this space is all about playing and having fun.
What We'll Be Doing
During our time together, we will start from the very beginning. I will guide you through:
🖌️ How to properly hold and use a brush pen.
📔 The fundamental basic strokes (learning the magic of thin upstrokes and thick downstrokes).
🔤 How to connect those basic shapes to form letters and words.
🖼️ Designing and lettering your own set of gift tags to take home, ready for wrapping up something special.

Welcome & Settle In
Find your seat, unbox your curated Swallow Wind Art calligraphy kit, and order your favourite warm drink. Take a breath and get comfortable!
- 1:10 am - 1:30 pm
The Basics & Brush Control
We will kick things off by learning how to hold your new brush pen. I will guide you through the core fundamental of modern calligraphy: the magical mix of light upstrokes and heavy downstrokes.
- 1:30 pm - 2:10 pm
Alphabet Practise & Creative Flow
We will move through the basic strokes and start forming our lowercase alphabet. This is a quiet, meditative time to just enjoy the feeling of pen on paper with zero pressure.
- 2:10 pm - 2:30 pm
Connecting Letters & Words
The best part! We will learn how to seamlessly join your beautiful new letters together to write your name, favourite words, or short quotes.
- 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Final Piece & Mingling
We will spend the last part of our afternoon putting your new skills to use by designing and lettering custom gift tags for you to take home. Chat with your tablemates, snap some photos of your work, and enjoy the lovely community vibe. 🥰
FAQs
- Do I need to have good handwriting to attend?
Absolutely not! This is the most common misconception about calligraphy. Brush calligraphy is actually more like drawing shapes than writing. We will be breaking everything down into simple strokes, so your everyday handwriting does not matter at all.
- I have never done anything creative before. Is this for me?
Yes, a thousand times yes! This workshop is designed specifically for complete beginners. My goal is to create a safe, cosy space where you can just play and experiment without any pressure to be "perfect."
- What do I need to bring?
Just your lovely self! Everything you need to participate is included in your ticket. You will receive a curated Swallow Wind Art kit with pens and paper to use on the day and take home, plus we will have plenty of shared tools on the tables.
- Can I come by myself?
Of course! Many of our journalers and crafters attend solo. When you check out, you can let me know if you prefer to be seated at a chatty table to make new friends, or a quiet, cosy corner if you just want some peaceful time to yourself.
- Are food and drinks included?
While food and drinks are not included in the ticket price, our beautiful venue has a wonderful menu! You are more than welcome to order your favourite coffee, tea, or sweet treat to enjoy at your table while we letter.
